Bamboo Benefits

Green Apple Active is an environmentally conscious clothing brand that is passionate about designing organic, biodegradable articles of clothing for the active individual. As a result, we have designed an entire line based on an alternative fabric that far outweighs its competitors. Our organic bamboo fibers have more benefits than most people realize, and that’s what we’re here to talk to you about today. As a vegan, eco-friendly company, we want to shed light on why bamboo is better for clothing, for you, and for our environment.

Fabric Design Benefits

Often compared to cotton, bamboo offers another standard of comfort. The soft, pliable fabric is also moisture wicking, making it an ideal source to design active wear from. Much like cotton, bamboo fabric will keep you from getting drenched in sweat, making it a cool fabric that allows your body to breathe.

Bamboo fabric have a natural UV protection which allows for thermal control and overall comfort in the midst of your day. With a 94% protection from UVA rays, and a 93% block from UVB, bamboo clothing is extremely resistant and will ensure you’re covered outside while keeping you cool.

Less Odor

One of the little-known facts of bamboo fabric, and potentially one of the best benefits, is that bacteria doesn’t live well in it. In the bamboo there is an agent called “bamboo kun”, which prevents the bacteria from embedding itself in the fibers. Bamboo is also naturally antibacterial and antifungal. As a result, you don’t have to worry about a stench developing deep in the fabric fibers, even after a few days. One more reason bamboo fabric activewear just makes sense.

For those with sensitive skin or allergies, bamboo is completely hypoallergenic. Due to its natural anti-stick property, you don’t have to worry about it rubbing and igniting a rash or being uncomfortable.

Environmental Benefits

One of the best parts of bamboo is how environmentally friendly it is. While comfort of clothing is important, there’s much more to the benefits bamboo provides as a fabric. Here are a few of our favorite aspects of it.

Bamboo reaches its maturity much faster than trees do, about 4 years to be exact. With a deep root system, they are able to grow up to 4 feet per day! Naturally regenerative, bamboo also doesn’t require aid in growing, including fertilizers. Comparing to timber and cotton, the results are undeniable. There is absolutely no pesticides or use of any other chemicals in order to grow bamboo. Additionally, they thrive with very little water, making it a substantially sustainable source.

Cleaner Air

Trees are often regarded for their contribution to our breathing our air due to their absorption of carbon dioxide and releasing of oxygen. However, bamboo actually absorbs more carbon dioxide than any both cotton and timber, about five times more to be exact, and releases 35% more oxygen. Combined with the minimal water needed, bamboo is by far a superior eco-friendly option for the environment as a whole.

In comparison to cotton, the sheer volume of bamboo harvested is equivalent, with less of a detriment to land mass. To give an idea, if you were to yield the same amount of bamboo and cotton, the amount of land mass bamboo would cover to match it would only be 10% of the cotton land mass. Additionally, when bamboo is harvested, it is cut rather than uprooted like its tree counterpart, so it’s better for the soil as well. With its extensive root system, the bamboo prevents soil erosion and retains water.

In addition to the rest of the positive effects bamboo has on the environment, it is also 100% biodegradable. Moreover, bamboo fabrics are able to be manufactured without added chemicals.

All in all, bamboo made clothing has seen great responses in the industry. As processes continue, new ways are being designed to help make the process even more resourceful and eco friendly. Green Apple Active is a company with intention to bring an overall mental awareness to the clothing industry. With a unique blend of organic bamboo and organic cotton, our activewear is sure to surpass the comfort and fit of your usual active attire. Bamboo Fabric

There are numerous lifestyle changes that can contribute to a healthier body and a better environment for all. Using bamboo fabric instead of other materials, such as plastic and polyester, is a major example of a tiny change, which has a positive impact on the environment and the human body.

The Bamboo fabric that we use in Green Apple Active comes from the pulp of the bamboo grass, which is one of the fastest-growing grasses on earth. The bamboo plant does not need pesticides or fertilizers for its growth. As a result, the increased usage of the bamboo fabric and the increased cultivation of the plant contribute to a healthier and more sustainable environment. Moreover, it is 100% biodegradable; hence, it plays a vital role in reducing pollution.

The cultivation of the bamboo plant does not require a huge amount of water. It grows well with only rainwater, and little or no extra water. Therefore, the conservation of resources such as water by the increased usage of this fabric contributes greatly to a better environment.

Bamboo fabric has various positive effects on the human body. It is known that plastic and polyester cause hormonal problems, and lead to many diseases, including skin cancer and various other types of cancers, skin problems, and respiratory infections. Using bamboo fabric, instead of plastic or polyester, is a great way to prevent harmful effects on the human body.

Unlike most synthetic fibers, bamboo clothing has a natural deodorizing attribute. It does not leave a stench, even after being used for a few days, as it does not provide a suitable living environment for bacteria. Its antibacterial properties are the result of a bacteriologic bio agent, known as "Bamboo Kun". The Bamboo Kun adheres to the cellulose in the bamboo plant, and hence, it is retained even after the plant is processed to make the fiber.

Bamboo fabric does not cling to the skin. It is found to be 12 times more antistatic than cotton. This is due to the fact that it is hydroscopic, and has the capacity to absorb three times its weight in water. As a result, it assists in keeping the skin drier, and sits closer to the skin than regular synthetic fiber.

Another feature of bamboo fabric is its versatility. It can be worn during various activities, from working out in the gym to skiing, as it is very comfortable and gives a soft feel to the skin. Moreover, bamboo fabric adapts to the body temperature, and provides comfort in both warm and cool surroundings.

The bamboo fabric is dyed with a particular UV-absorbing material, which prevents almost 98% of the ultraviolet rays of the sun from reaching the skin, which helps in preventing skin cancer.

Bamboo fabric contains spaces between each fabric fiber, allowing the skin to breathe. This results in less abrasive damage to the skin, and hence, it is more suitable than synthetic fiber for people with sensitive skin or skin conditions such as eczema.

Hence, it can be seen that bamboo fabric helps both the environment and the individual. It is highly biodegradable, and supports in tackling the greenhouse effect. The plant does not need much water, pesticides or fertilizers for its growth, making it an ecological wonder. Besides this, it provides tremendous comfort as a fabric, and helps prevent various diseases.

Make a Conscious Clothing Choice: Choose Bamboo

In today's world, we live active lives. As we learn more from science and medicine about the importance of exercise for health and fitness, we add more physical activity to our lives. Hiking, cycling, visiting the gym, or simply going for a daily walk can help us stay healthier. Yet, as consumers, we also need to become more aware of the environmental impact and potential health-related consequences of all the product choices we make - and that includes the clothing we buy. In fact, the kind of fabric we choose when we buy clothing plays a key role in our health and comfort every day and in many ways affects the health and comfort of everyone on the planet.
Bamboo: A Healthier Clothing Choice
Bamboo is a healthy choice for all types of clothing. Yet, when choosing activewear specifically - for those hikes, bike rides, and other physically demanding activities that help keep us fit - it's even more important to choose a fabric that allows our skin to breathe and protects our bodies from the elements. One type of clothing that offers these and many other benefits to active people seeking natural clothing choices is Green Apple active wear made from bamboo fabric. If you are looking for a greener, cleaner, healthier clothing choice to help you avoid many of the negative personal and environmental repercussions of today's synthetic fabrics, organic bamboo is the way to go.
Healthier for Your Body
Bamboo clothing is better for your skin than clothing made from synthetic polyester fibers. Thanks to a naturally occurring anti-bacterial, antifungal, and deodorization agent found within the plant, bamboo fabric that is manufactured from NOP certified organic bamboo and then carefully processed can help protect the skin from harmful microorganisms. Whereas fabrics such as polyester contain hormone disrupters and other harmful chemicals that have been implicated in illnesses such as cancer, Green Apple Active bamboo fabrics are fully tested and certified by Oeko-Tek to be completely chemical-free. Certified organic bamboo clothing also offers UVA protection, a critical property that can help prevent skin cancer.
More Comfortable to Wear
Bamboo clothing is soft, smooth, and comfortable to wear, making bamboo the perfect material for activewear such as athletic apparel. In fact, bamboo fabric is so soft that it's actually suitable for making cloth diapers that will be worn against a baby's sensitive skin. Along with its extreme breathability which helps keep you cooler in summer while drawing perspiration away from your skin, bamboo fabric also keeps you warmer in winter by trapping warmer air next to your body - two opposite manifestations of bamboo's unique thermal regulation ability. Another factor that helps keep the wearers of bamboo clothing more comfortable is the fabric's anti-static quality.
Better for the Environment
While synthetic fabrics such as polyester are made from petroleum and as a result contribute to plastic pollution of our oceans and landfills, bamboo fabric offers a healthy alternative that's beneficial to the environment. Because it is made from natural plant material, bamboo fabric is biodegradable, a fact that can greatly reduce the huge ecological impact of discarded clothing,
But, bamboo isn't only safer for the environment after the clothing has been discarded. It's also environmentally friendly and ecologically sustainable to grow. In fact, though many ecologically minded people consider cotton to be a healthy natural fiber, growing bamboo is actually much more earth-friendly than growing cotton. A few key reasons bamboo is better for the environment are that it grows very quickly and that it is a renewable resource (since it is self-seeding). It also inhibits soil erosion and removes 30% more CO2 from the air than trees do, a fact that can help significantly reduce global warming.
So, the next time you shop for activewear, keep the above points in mind. Then use what you've learned to make a conscious choice to take better care of our world while taking better care of your body by choosing bamboo clothing.
