7 Easy Mindfulness Exercises to Improve your Mental Health

7 Easy Mindfulness Exercises to Improve your Mental Health

March 29, 2018 3 min read

Mental health should never be joked around with, let alone not getting treatment. People often postpone their psychiatrists because they feel that society will mark them as crazy. And this isn't surprising: Research has shown that the vast majority of people still believe that those who visit psychiatrists (mental health specialists) are insane. Although, it's worth noting that this has changed for the better in the last couple of years.

However, it's still a sad state of affairs, but it's how the world works right now. But, what can you do to improve your mental health without going to a psychiatrist (although, if you're having some major mental health problems, you should definitely see one)?
These tips will help you better yourself and deal with some mental issues that you might be having. Here are 7 easy steps to improve your mental health!

Practice Meditation
Meditation has helped many people overcome their mental health issues. There's no better way to fight your demons that to sit in silence and focus. Meditation can help you with stress and insomnia, and it's a great way to get rid of the dark cloud above you.
It doesn't require anything special; 15 minutes of meditation before sleep will do you just right! You can do more if you want, but the choice is yours.

Breathing
Are you someone that can't stay calm in certain situations? If yes (and if your mental health isn't at its best), then you'll just have to learn to control your breathing. Hyperventilating is bad and can cause you to lose consciousness.
Learn how to breathe properly by relaxing yourself and ‘slowing' everything down. Once this is done, take a couple of deep breaths and exhale. Do this for some time until you start feeling relaxed.

Proper Sleep
Sleep deprivation can cause anyone to become stressed out and uninterested in the outside world. Insomnia can sometimes be confused with depression as the person is too tired to think and isn't interested in what's happening around them. There's a general lack of focus and willpower when you haven't had enough sleep, and the only way to fight mental health problems is by getting the sleep you need.
You might be thinking that it's easier said than done; well, meditation helps with insomnia!

Exercise Regularly
Research has shown that exercising can help fight depression and insomnia. In fact, it's so effective that some doctors are telling their patients to start working out alongside taking medicine for various mental health illnesses.

Eating Good Foods for Good Moods
Junk food simply isn't good for you. There's so much unknown related to fast food and junk food that you can never be sure of what you're eating. Homegrown food items and fresh produce from the garden is an amazing alternative to these unhealthy foods. Plus, you'll be feeling a lot better once you eat something you made (where the ingredients came from your backyard). That way, you're always certain of what you're eating and if you're eating good – your mood will be even better!

Setting Positive Intentions
Whatever the situation might be, always try to be nice to people. You never know what someone is going through and if there's no one positive around you, well, you'll have to be that person.
As long as you keep a positive state of mind, you're going to be better, and your mental health will improve. Worrying too much means receiving too much stress, and those stress amounts can cause some serious health issues, mental or physical.

Accomplishing Goals
Your mental health can go from good to bad and vice versa in an instant. It all depends on what is happening to you and what you're experiencing. However, if you start setting up goals for yourself to reach, some positive results will come your way. Accomplish the goals you set, and you'll be feeling better in no time!
