Bamboo: The Superstar Plant

By JENN WILSON

bamboo grass

Bamboo, while not yet a household name yet here in the United States, has already gained a superstar status in some parts of the world for all its health and environmental benefits. Pandas have been known to consume bamboo on a daily basis- so perhaps our furry friends already know something that us humans are just now catching up on. Bamboo is a great source of fiber as well as potassium and phytochemicals. And while health benefits are already great on its own- whats even more amazing is its effects on the environment.
Did you know that bamboo has a lower environmental impact than cotton, nylon or polyester? which by the way is normally pesticide-laden? Ewww. Fabrics from bamboo are also softer than cotton and can make you feel like youre actually wearing silk or cashmere! Its also great for those who suffer from allergies and sensitive skin, because its hypoallergenic and will does not contain all the harmful chemicals that conventional fabrics normally have. Another great thing about bamboo is that it absorbs sweat much faster than cotton so if you sweat after every workout (which really you should, otherwise whats the point) ) then bamboo clothing is definitly for you! Bamboo truly is an exceptional plant with so many uses and benefits- not only does it make for a better and healthier world, its also makes for a better and healthier YOU!
